Natural vs XD1900 Wool: What's the difference?

Updated: Feb 14, 2019

There are many shared features between our Shear Comfort Natural Wool and XD1900 products but there are also some differences.

The qualities of the two products are detailed below to help you decide which product is best for you.

The Differences

Shear Comfort Natural Wool products can withstand many washes up to 80c, effectively killing any bacteria. We recommend you wash Natural Wool products with our wool care shampoo. The XD1900 range can be washed above 80c, even with normal detergent.

By crossbreeding a Merino sheep with an English Ram we can produce a wool that’s beautifully soft to touch, yet offers brilliant pressure redistribution at the same time. Our Natural Wool products have a variable density of between 800 and 1200 gsm. The XD1900 is weaved to a density of 1900gsm, meaning there are more fibres per square metre than is possible in natural sheepskin. The fibres are woven onto a fabric backing, creating a product which is more effective at redistributing pressure, is lighter to carry and easier to wash.

The Shared Qualities

Manufactured from medical grade natural sheepskin, both the Shear Comfort Natural Wool and XD1900 ranges meet the Australian Standard for textiles for Healthcare Facilities and Institutions (AS4480:1).

The Shear Comfort Natural Wool and XD1900 wool both have all the features you’d expect from a high-quality wool product. They redistribute pressure, reduce shear and friction, wick away moisture and control temperature. This ensures comfort wherever it’s needed.
